Structure, structure, structure
– yes, the physical structure of any school
building should be up to code and constructed
with students’ safety in mind. The
arrangements of rooms within the
building, as well as the security of the grounds
play major roles in the overall security and
safety of a school. Due to recent weather
disasters our focus has heightened concerning
the stability of the school structure
during this
occurrence.
Our society is also going green,
as we look at ways to improve
our school environment and make it healthy and
useable for future generations.

Kentucky
Center for School Safety
(KCSS), Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), and
Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA) are
collaborating to provide safe school assessments to
any school in Kentucky. These informational,
independent assessments are not to be confused with
an audit. The voluntary assessment can enhance
the school's learning environment by examining
climate and culture. The
safe school assessment process involves many
aspects, including an examination of the school
facilities and grounds to check for safety issues
that may need to be addressed to provide the best
and safest learning environment for students.
Recommendations are made and this also provides the
school with a needs assessment that can be used in
developing a school safety component of the school’s
Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. |
